Spur grommets are not as strong as sewn rings, but they are much more quickly installed. Do not confuse these grommets with the common washer grommets that are sold in hardware stores everywhere. Spur grommets are of heavier metal with spurs all around the inside rim of the washer that lock into a rolled edge on the barrel part of the grommet. As a result, they will not easily pull out of the fabric.
These nickel-plated brass spur grommets have a 3/8-inch hole and will work for most applications. Nickel-plated brass is more corrosion-resistant than stainless steel. However, if you need grommets for high-stress, load-bearing applications, use stainless steel spur grommets.
These brass grommets will work with a minimum material thickness of 0.058 inch (or three layers of marine grade acrylic fabric) and a maximum material thickness of 0.168 inch (or seven layers of marine grade acrylic fabric).
Note: Spur grommets cannot be installed with common washer grommet tools. Use a #2 die with a #2 spur grommet.
