Spur grommets are not as strong as sewn rings, but they are much more quickly installed. Do not confuse these grommets with the common washer grommets that are sold in hardware stores everywhere. Spur grommets are of heavier metal with spurs (teeth) all around the inside rim of the washer. These spurs lock into a rolled edge on the barrel part of the grommet. As a result, spur grommets will not easily pull out of fabric.
These grommets have a 1/2-inch hole and are made of brass with a semi-shiny black finish. Brass is more corrosion resistant than stainless steel. However, if you need grommets for high-stress, load-bearing applications, use stainless steel spur grommets.
These grommets will work with a minimum material thickness of 0.096 inch (or four layers of marine grade acrylic fabric) and a maximum material thickness of 0.240 inch (or 10 layers of marine grade acrylic fabric).
Note: Spur grommets cannot be installed with common washer grommet tools. Use a #4 spur die to set a #4 spur grommet.
