How to Make a Fabric Memo Board
-
Roll out the batting and lay your board on top of it. Cut the batting, leaving about 2"-3" on all sides of the board.
-
Starting in the center of one side of the board, pull the batting taut around the edge of the board and staple it in place. Repeat this process on the opposite side of the board. Work back and forth between the sides, pulling and stapling.
-
Repeat the process of pulling and stapling on the two remaining sides, also starting from the center.
-
At the corners, cut off the excess batting. Then fold the remaining batting flat and taut and staple it in place.
-
Repeat these steps with the fabric. Take care at the corners to fold them as flat and flush as possible.
-
Turn your board right side over.
-
Make an X through the center of your board with the ribbon. Staple the ribbon ends to the back of the board to secure.
-
Determine how many segments you want between your ribbons in each quadrant of the board. We have 3 segments on each side of the center on our board.
-
Use a ruler to measure the distance from one corner to the center. Divide that number by your segment number (3 in our case). This will tell you how far apart each ribbon should be. Tip: Use a little piece of basting tape (#129) on each end of your ribbon strips to help stick them to the board as you place the ribbon.
-
When you have the ribbons arranged how you want them, staple them to the back of the board to secure.
-
At each point where the ribbons intersect, add a decorative nail. Hold the nail with pliers and use a mallet to hammer it into the board.
-
Add hangers to the back of the board to hang your memo board on the wall. Then fill it up with notes and photos!
