Product Details

SoftSide Chrome Tanned Leather is a top grain protected leather from premium Buffalo hides. The hides are finished with a consistent and durable finish to create a very even surface, then embossed with a natural-looking small pebble grain. SoftSide is ideal for high-traffic upholstery applications and more. The characteristic grain and consistent finish make SoftSide very easy to cut.

Chrome tan is a popular choice for garments, gloves, bags and upholstery. It is more water resistant and less prone to marring and scratches than vegetable tanned leather. It’s also less absorbent, making it stain resistant and a great choice for leather upholstery. Chrome tan leather requires less maintenance than veg tan, and it also boasts a superior tensile strength.

Choose from a side, 12" x 12" or 12" x 24" panel in the drop-down menu. The average size of a leather side is 19 to 22 sq. ft.

Please Note: This leather side is a bulk list item. You will receive a hide similar to the one shown but not necessarily that particular hide.

What Is Chrome Tanned Leather?

Chrome tanned leather is the most common tanning process. Chrome tanned leathers use chemical compounds such as chromium that speed up the tanning process, which allows the leather to be tanned in just days. Because of the faster production time, chrome tanned leather is often less expensive than vegetable tanned leather. Chrome tan leather is also typically softer and thinner than veg tan. There is a wide variety of colors to choose from, making chrome tan a popular choice for upholstery and clothing.

Leather Patina

Chrome tanned leather will patina but not as significantly as vegetable tanned leather. With use and time, chrome tanned leather will develop a shine that adds character to the finished item. The color may also slightly darken over a long period of time, but not to a significant degree.
