How to Remove Wrinkles from Upholstered Vinyl
We know that creating custom upholstery pieces often has its ups and downs. That's why at Sailrite®, we're here to help you every step of the way. After you've created a custom upholstery project using vinyl fabric, you may notice there are some wrinkles in the assembly. No worries! This blog will walk you through how to remove wrinkles from upholstered vinyl.
After upholstering new vinyl projects, it’s perfectly normal to encounter a few wrinkles. Although they may be unsightly, these types of inconsistencies can be worked out of the fabric using a steam gun. A garment steamer is typically enough to remove the wrinkles without melting the vinyl fabric. You can also use a heat gun or a hairdryer if you don’t have a garment steamer, but you’ll need to be very careful not to melt your vinyl.
With a garment steamer, hot water vapor can be applied very close or directly to the wrinkled vinyl and should help remove any wrinkles within a few minutes. If you’re going to be utilizing a heat gun or hairdryer, it’s best to not put it directly against the vinyl. These get very hot very quickly and can easily burn your vinyl before you notice.
Another thing to be mindful of when removing wrinkles from vinyl fabric is burning your fingers. Steam can get very hot and easily burn you if it’s too close to your skin. The same thing goes for a heat gun or hairdryer. If you’re pressing on the vinyl fabric with your fingers to help remove wrinkles while you apply heat, do so with caution.
