How to Upholster Corners & Curves With 4-Way Stretch Vinyl
In every vinyl upholstery project, there may be a panel that has a lot of curves, sharp corners or a combination of the two. Don't let it scare you, though — it's easy to upholster an oddly shaped panel with the right vinyl material and upholstery techniques! In this blog, we'll show you how to make smooth, wrinkle-free corners and curves with vinyl material.
Use four-way stretch vinyl and a few other materials to upholster curves and corners with no wrinkles.
Before getting started, it helps to consider which vinyl type will give you the best results on your unique project. Some vinyls stretch and curve to accommodate odd shapes better than others do. One of these is four-way stretch vinyl. It's a good choice for marine, auto/RV and outdoor living projects, to name a few.
You can pull and arrange stretch vinyl fabric to cover almost any shape. It hugs corners and curves without wrinkling much — and any wrinkles that pop up are easy to get rid of with a few simple tools and techniques. Sailrite® carries four-way stretch vinyl from EverSoft™ and Morbern®, so you have plenty of color and texture options to choose from.
Use wrinkles and relief notches on the back of the panel to make the front as smooth as possible.
