Outdura® Fabric - Premium Performance Upholstery
What Is Outdura Fabric?
Outdura is an indoor/outdoor upholstery fabric that meets your demand for durability, cleanability and longevity. UV, water and mildew resistant, Outdura fabrics are a joy to work with at a price that won’t break the bank. Woven in the United States at its world-class mill, Outdura strives to deliver the latest trends and styles in the upholstery market, always bringing you fresh fabrics and inspiration. From your living room to the patio and beyond, Outdura is the smart choice for all your upholstery DIYs.
What Is Solution-Dyed Fabric?
When you’re looking for a fabric that can go the distance, choose solution-dyed acrylic. With solution-dyeing, the raw material is dyed before being spun into yarns, and then woven into fabric. This means that the color penetrates to the core of every fiber, producing an extremely colorfast material with the best fade resistance of any woven fabric on the market. Solution-dyeing does not require water, making these fabrics much more environmentally friendly than surface-dyed or printed fabrics.
Think of solution-dyeing as the difference between granite and laminate countertops. Granite is stone all the way through, whereas laminate is a topical layer. When laminate chips, you can see the particleboard underneath.
Where Can I Use Outdura?
The versatility of this indoor/outdoor performance fabric means the uses for Outdura are almost limitless! Here are some ideas of where you can use this premium solution-dyed acrylic:
- Home upholstery, curtains, pillows, headboards and décor pieces.
- Marine interior and exterior cushions, pillows and curtains.
- Outdoor cushions and pillows.
- RV and automotive upholstery, pillows and curtains.

Sailrite is your trusted source for not only quality sewing products at fair prices but also the knowledge and educational content to help you select the right materials for your specific needs and requirements.

Outdura checks all the boxes of what you’re looking for in an upholstery fabric. This premium acrylic exceeds industry standards for durability, cleanability, breathability and stain resistance.
Easy to Clean
Never let the fear of stains and complicated cleaning instructions hold you back from choosing a fabric you love. With Outdura, loose dirt and debris are easily vacuumed away. A simple mixture of lukewarm water and mild soap removes most stains. Stubborn stains are easy to remove with a solution of cold water, mild soap and bleach.
Fade Resistant
Sun protection is spun into every fiber. Color vibrancy remains through rigorous sun and weather exposure. This means you can coordinate your living room and outdoor furniture for a cohesive, coordinated look inside and outside your home.
Strong & Durable
Thanks to its solution-dyed properties and weaving process, Outdura is an incredibly abrasion-resistant fabric. It’s also mold and mildew resistant and withstands the elements. You can leave Outdura cushions on your patio year-round. In fact, Outdura fabrics boast an impressive 10-year limited warranty. That’s the longest warranty of any upholstery fabric we stock!
Stain Resistant
Outdura fabrics are naturally stain resistant due to the manufacturing process. They score 90 out of 100 on the strict AATCC water-repellency spray test. This high rating proves that Outdura’s superior surface finish repels water and prevents excess moisture from penetrating the fabric. These properties make Outdura a great choice for not only patio and marine upholstery but also homes with messy kids and pets.

Company History
Outdura is made by Sattler Group, a leader in the performance textile industry. Founded in 1875, Sattler Group is a family-owned textile manufacturer, headquartered in Austria, with worldwide recognition. Sattler has been at the forefront of the textile industry for decades. It’s a leader in fabric design, innovation and sustainable manufacturing practices. Sattler Group is a household name in the European DIY market, well-known for its premium solution-dyed acrylic canvas called Sattler Marine Grade.
After decades of dominating the European marine canvas market, Sattler Group wanted to expand its fabric offerings and break into the competitive U.S. textile market. In 2010, the company acquired Shuford Mills in Hudson, North Carolina, along with its production operation and distribution center. The 180,000 square foot mill is on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as Outdura’s headquarters and production facility. All the mill’s employees joined the new Outdura team in order to continue to expand and grow the company in the United States.
With the acquisition of an American mill, Outdura was determined to bring the same quality control and expectations the brand has for its original marine grade fabric to the upholstery line. Every first-quality Sattler fabric we stock is woven and finished at its state-of-the-art mill in North Carolina.
