Spur grommets are not as strong as sewn rings, but they are much more quickly installed. Do not confuse these grommets with the common washer grommets that are sold in hardware stores everywhere. Spur grommets are of heavier metal with spurs all around the inside rim of the washer that lock into a rolled edge on the barrel part of the grommet. As a result, they will not easily pull out of the fabric.
These grommets have a 5/16-inch hole and are made of nickel-plated brass. This metal is more corrosion-resistant than stainless steel. However, if you need grommets for high-stress, load-bearing applications, use stainless steel spur grommets.
These brass grommets will work with a minimum material thickness of 0.048 inch (or three layers of marine grade acrylic fabric) and a maximum material thickness of 0.144 inch (or six layers of marine grade acrylic fabric).
For the best results, we recommend using a #2 hole cutter for the #1 Spur Grommet.
Please Note: Spur grommets cannot be installed with common washer grommet tools. Use a #1 die with a #1 spur grommet.
