Rivets and burrs hold material layers together in a variety of leather and fabric projects. These solid metal rivet sets will stay securely in place. The rivet goes through your material assembly, while the burr is pushed down onto the post using a setter. Once the burr meets the material surface, the excess rivet post is cut, leaving 1/8" of the post to flatten and smooth as desired with a mallet.

Flattening is accomplished with the third included tool with most setting tools sold. It compacts and rounds the end of the cut rivet. Further flattening is not required but does contribute to strength and can achieve a desired aesthetic. Rivets and burrs are stronger than double-cap rivets and are often used to reinforce the edges of pockets where stress on thread stitching is the greatest.

Select rivet length based on the thickness of the leather or material that you are penetrating. The rivet must extend roughly 1/8" from the top surface of the material.

Use #14 decorative rivets and burrs as decorative accents for belts, dog collars, clothing, accessories, bags and other projects. Use #9 and #12 heavy-duty rivets and burrs for areas where strength and durability are required. All sizes can be installed with a rivet setter or hand press, or the Sailrite® HandyPress® using compatible dies when available. A side cutter (or preferably tip-end cutters) and hole punch are required to use these fasteners. A mallet is optional for installations using presses but required when using hand-setting tools.
